Algal Identification for Water Professionals is a two-day workshop which will provide an introduction to collection, identification, and ecology of cyanobacteria and eukaryotic algae, with emphasis on those which are of consequence in the management of water resources. The course will provide lectures and hands-on exercises such as microscopic examination of selected species and an introduction to collection techniques and preservation.

The course will start at 9:30 am to 4 pm daily. Registration fee of $360 will cover the cost of instruction, lecture handouts, and morning refreshments. Course materials are included. Participants may bring lunch or purchase on site at the campus cafe.

Instructor is Dr. R. Christian Jones, Professor of Environmental Science and Policy and Director of the Potomac Environmental Research and Education Center at George Mason University. Dr. Jones has over 30 years of experience in algal ecology and freshwater ecology.
